Slings and Carriers
Slings
Slings are how Opossum Baby first started. I initially made a very lightly padded sling for a wedding I was in. After that I made one for my Sister in Law in exchange for borrowing her sewing machine, and she asked for 3 more (much to my astonishment). At her suggestion, I started making them for sale. After a few months a customer asked me to make a reversible padded sling (something most people consider impossible). However, with some work I came up with a design. I've recently applied for a pattent on that design to prevent a big company from swooping in and stealing my hard work.
Slings come in a few different styles. There are unpadded or Maya wrap style slings, hip carriers (which only do the one hold or carry), and padded slings with various amounts of padding. I make a lightly padded sling because I've found that I'm uncomfortable with no padding and equally uncomfortable with too much padding. I am not adverse to making an unpadded sling. However, if I'm having a busy month I'll most likely refer you to a friend who makes unpadded slings all the time.
Other Carriers
Right now I'm working on a variation of a Japaneese carrier called an Onbu. I want to try this because putting a baby on your back in a sling can be precarious and the Onbu offers more support in a back carry which is important for younger babies.
